This keto gyro bowl reimagines the Greek street-food classic as a quick, protein-packed dinner. Crispy spiced beef and lamb sit on a cool cucumber-tomato salad, all tied together with homemade tzatziki and salty feta, no pita required.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
  • 1/2 lb ground lamb
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup full-fat Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 medium cucumber, finely grated and squeezed dry (for tzatziki) plus 1 cup diced (for bowls)
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/4 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 2 tbsp fresh dill, chopped

Instructions

  1. 1

Make the tzatziki: stir together the Greek yogurt, grated and squeezed cucumber, half the minced garlic, lemon juice, dill, and a pinch of salt. Refrigerate while you cook.

  2. 2

Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and lamb and break it apart, cooking until browned, about 7 minutes.

  3. 3

Stir in the remaining garlic, oregano, cumin, and smoked paprika. Continue cooking, undisturbed for a minute at a time, until the meat is crisp and browned at the edges, about 4 more minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

  4. 4

Toss the diced cucumber, cherry tomatoes, and red onion with the remaining 1 tbsp olive oil and a pinch of salt.

  5. 5

Divide the cucumber-tomato salad among 4 bowls. Top each with the seasoned meat, a generous dollop of tzatziki, and crumbled feta.

Tips & notes

  • No ground lamb? Use 1.5 lb ground beef total and add an extra 1/2 tsp oregano for that signature gyro flavor.
  • Store components separately for up to 4 days. Keep tzatziki and the fresh salad apart from the meat, then reheat the meat and assemble fresh for the best texture.
  • For extra crunch and healthy fats, top with sliced kalamata olives or a few toasted pine nuts (add about 0.5g net carbs).

Frequently asked questions

How many carbs are in keto gyro bowl?
Each serving has 6.4g net carbs, 512 calories, 34g protein, and 38g fat. This recipe makes 4 servings.
Can I make this gyro bowl ahead for meal prep?
Yes. Cook the meat and make the tzatziki up to 4 days ahead and store them in separate containers. Prep the cucumber-tomato salad fresh, or store it separately so it stays crisp, then assemble bowls when ready to eat.
What can I use instead of ground lamb?
Use 1.5 lb of ground beef in total. Lamb gives the classic gyro taste, so bump up the oregano by 1/2 tsp and add a pinch of extra cumin to keep it authentic if you skip the lamb.
